| About
the Database
ADSlogans.com,
formerly ADSlogans Unlimited and before that, The Slogo
Register, has built a database of many thousands of advertising
slogans. These have appeared, mostly, in the United Kingdom
and the USA, during the last ten-plus years. Thanks to our
strategic alliance with Xtreme Information, we have recently
expanded our coverage to include slogans that have appeared
throughout the English-speaking world.
The records run across all product
categories, in all media, and also include many historic
lines. The database is not available on-line. Searches are
carried out, and customized reports are issued, by AdSlogans.com, to order, to suit the needs of the client.
AdSlogans.com was designed by
adman and author Timothy R V Foster as a resource for the
advertising industry.
This website has been designed to show how
you can benefit the most from our service, and have fun,
too.
How It Got Going
Adman
and author Timothy R. V. Foster has long had a fascination
with advertising slogans. One day he started collecting
them and soon built a database that enabled lines to be
searched by key words. This was brought to life each week
throughout 1991 as a quiz Foster devised, that ran in in
Marketing magazine, called Name
That Brand.
The quiz ran for over a year, launching on
the front-cover. After a few months agencies were wanting
to check the database to see if someone else was using a
proposed line. Foster realized he was on to something. "I
built the database like crazy," he says "checking
past award books for famous lines (eg, 'Beanz meanz Heinz',
or 'It's what your right arm's for'), searching back issues
of publications and reviewing historical commercials. I
soon had over 5000 lines and about two search requests a
month."
