In 1975, David Ogilvy of Ogilvy & Mather developed this highly successful campaign. The slogan was intended to establish travellers cheques and cheque cards as essential to everyday life. The American actor Karl Malden starred in over 100 TV spots and served as the public face of American Express for 25 years. Another famous slogan used to promote the charge card was "American Express. That'll do nicely'".
